As a Junior RF & Digital Systems Engineer, you will design, simulate, and test the physical layer components and digital systems of cellular communication devices. You will work on cutting-edge 4G LTE, 5G, and emerging 6G technologies, bridging the gap between RF hardware and digital signal processing. This entry-level role focuses on system simulation, lab characterization, and hardware-digital integration under the mentorship of senior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- System Simulation: Model RF front-ends, link budgets, and digital signal processing chains using MATLAB or Python.
- Lab Characterization: Conduct hands-on testing of cellular transceiver chips, components, and evaluation boards.
- Silicon Bring-Up: Assist in debugging hardware-digital interfaces and optimizing system-level performance.
- Data Analysis: Collect and analyze laboratory test data to identify noise, distortion, and signal integrity issues.
- Team Collaboration: Work with senior RF designers, digital design teams, and firmware engineers to integrate systems.
Qualifications & Skills
- Cellular Knowledge: Foundational understanding of 3GPP standards (4G LTE and 5G NR physical layer).
- RF Fundamentals: Knowledge of link budgets, noise figure, impedance matching, mixers, and filters.
- Digital Systems: Understanding of digital signal processing (DSP), A/D converters (ADCs/DACs), and sampling theory.
- Tools & Scripting: Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or LabVIEW for automated testing and data analysis.
- Lab Equipment: Basic hands-on experience with spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and signal generators.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with a focus on RF, electromagnetics, or communications.
Preferred Coursework
Applicants who have completed or are currently enrolled in the following advanced coursework (or equivalent) will be given strong preference:
- ECE 310 (Digital Signal Processing I): Strong foundation in discrete-time systems, sampling theory, and digital filter design.
- ECE 453 (Wireless Communication Systems): Hands-on knowledge of RF circuit design, impedance matching, link budgets, and wireless hardware architectures.
- ECE 551 (Digital Signal Processing II): Advanced understanding of multirate signal processing, vector spaces, and algorithm modeling (highly valued for DSP-focused tracks).
